May 23, 2007 CRA Super Series 125 returns to Berlin Raceway Marne, MIãBerlin Raceway will once again play host to the CRA Super Series this Saturday night, May 26, and race fans can look forward to several of their favorite local drivers racing in the 125- lap feature. At least nine Berlin Raceway regulars are entered in the event. Brian Campbell of Wyoming, 10-time Late Model champion Fred Campbell of Battle Creek, Terry VanHaitsma of Hudsonville, Billy Shotko of West Olive, Chris Anthony of Grand Rapids, John VanDoorn of Coopersville, Andy Ponstein of Hudsonville, Andrew Conklin of Spring Lake and Wayland driver Tony Staffen are scheduled to battle with CRA Super Series regulars such as Jack Landis of Edgerton, OH, Scott Hantz of Angola, IN, and other drivers from across the Midwest. CRA Super Series rookie point leader John VanDoorn will be returning to Berlin Raceway for the first time since his first win in Berlin's local Late Model series two weeks ago on May 12. VanDoorn is leading Sean Matthuis of Mokena, IL by 2 points in CRA rookie standings. Additionally, Hudsonville's Andy Ponstein, who was involved in a spectacular wreck on the first lap of the Coors Light Late Model feature on opening night (April 21), will return to Berlin Raceway for the CRA race. Last year, Allegan, Michigan native Tim Curry won the action-packed event at Berlin Raceway. Other notable winners of past CRA Super Series events at Berlin Raceway are Fred Campbell twice, Ross Meeuwsen and Scott Hantz. The CRA (Championship Racing Association) Super Series is a Midwestern touring series for Late Model stock cars which are stock-appearing and have 358 cubic inch engines with 9:1 compression ratio and a modified NASCAR-legal 390-cfm carburetor. The series is similar to the NASCAR "Elite" Series and the ASA Racing Series. NASCAR stars including Ryan Newman, who will be racing at Berlin Raceway on June 13 in a PRA car, Kenny Wallace and Ken Schrader have competed in the series. Also scheduled for Saturday night are the Coors Light Late Model and the Instant Cash Advance Sportsman divisions. Berlin is also offering a special on concessions on the holiday weekend with 12-ounce cans of beer and hot dogs for just $1 each all night long. There will also be a post-race party with musical guest Harry Lucas and the Lowdown. Tickets for the event are $16 for adults and $8 for children ages 6-12 (5 and under are free).
