Driver Letter Dear Berlin Raceway Driver, Just two and a half weeks before the first test-n-tune! We hope your cars are coming along nicely and will be done in time to get a couple practice sessions in before the opener, which is on April 12. We have big news to report about the pit entrance age! Please read on to learn more about some finalized details regarding the 2008 season at Berlin. PIT AGE: We have recently completed a safety and liability review process with our insurers and operations staff. In an effort to provide younger people with hands-on exposure to our sport, we have decided to lower the pit entrance age from 16 to 14. Please note, however, that the competitor age will remain at 16. PIT STALLS: The pit stall chart is enclosed. All drivers who contacted me to request a spot are on the chart. Any openings on the chart are available spots; if you'd like to move to one of the open spots, or if you do not yet have a spot reserved and wish to reserve one of the open spots, please contact me at (616) 726-7017. Open spots will be reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. For those of you who did reserve a spot, an invoice is enclosed. You may either mail a check or pay in person; payment is due by April 12 or your spot will be forfeited. DRIVER REGISTRATION FORMS: One last reminder that we need to receive your driver registration forms by April 1st in order to have your information included on the radio broadcast for the first two to three races, to have your car and sponsors listed in the program insert for the first two to three races, and to have your profile listed on our website. If you choose to forego being listed on the radio and in the program for these early races, you must at least have your completed driver registrations in before racing on Opening Night, or you will not receive prize money. The forms were sent out in last month's driver letter. POINTS FUND SPONSORS / CONTINGENCY STICKERS will be distributed beginning at the first test-n-tune. Please be sure to display these on your car in an appropriate (visible) location. Hoosier, Van Manen Race Fuels and the division sponsors. Aluminum Racing Products (ARP Bodies) has joined Engine Pro and their suppliers, Lane Automotive and 5 Star as contingency program sponsors. We expect to have your contingency sticker packets available by the first test-n-tune. 2008 DIVISION SPONSORS: We'd like to welcome Burnips Equipment Company as the sponsor of the 4-Cylinder division. Also welcome back Coors Light as the Late Model sponsor, Engine Pro as the Super Stock sponsor, De-Jay Slick Truck as the Pro Stock sponsor and Instant Cash Advance as the Sportsman sponsor. RACECEIVER COMMUNICATION: Berlin Raceway will again be using the RaceCeiver one-way communication system. Please remember that you own the system and you are responsible for bringing it to the track each week and replacing the AAA batteries as needed (they'll need to be changed weekly if you do not remove them after racing). Costs (including tax) are: TIRES will be available for purchase at Greg Jewett's swap meet at Berlin on March 29 for those who want to have one less thing to deal with on Opening Night. The tire barn will be open from 9 to noon. TEST-N-TUNES: Below is the track schedule for the April 5 Test-N-Tune. Pits open at 11 a.m. and cars are on the track from 1 to 5 p.m. Tech will begin at 12 p.m. Please note that as conditions may warrant, this schedule is subject to change. The second Test-N-Tune, on Wednesday, April 9 from 5 to 9, will follow the same type of schedule. PROMOTE YOUR CAR AND SPONSORS: If you would like to display your car in front of thousands of fans at a Whitecaps game at Fifth Third Ballpark, just call Mickey Graham at (616) 677-5000 ext. 1149 or e-mail him at mgraham@whitecapsbaseball.com. There is no fee. This is a great way to promote yourself, your car and your sponsors! PRE-PAID PIT PASSES: Drivers and crews will again be able to purchase pre-paid undated pit passes. You can purchase as many pit passes as you need in advance and provide them to your crew members or sponsors for convenience. An advantage to using pre-paid pit passes is the ability to use the "Pre-paid Pit Pass Only" gate between turns 1 and 2 to enter the pits from 12:00 to 12:45 p.m. (the turn 4 gate opens at 12:15). Cash will not be accepted at this gate. Pre-paid undated pit passes will be available at the ticket office on racedays, in the administrative office during business hours, or by phone. Please contact the Berlin Raceway ticket sales department at 616-677-5000 ext. 0 if you'd like to order pre-paid pit passes or have questions on how the program works. A few 2008 pocket schedules are enclosed; if you would like a box to place at your business location, please contact our office at (616) 677-5000. If you have any questions, please give us a call; our direct lines are (616) 726-7013 (Mike) and (616) 726-7017 (Lori). Sincerely, Mike Strevel Lori Ashcroft |
